GENERAL INFORMATION

This class requires that students read relevant abd available literature materials that would be provided from time to time. It is usually not possible to make a good grade in this course by relying only on ability to recall scrappy notes taken during lectures.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

This course is an introduction to how various human activities had impacted on the environment. A sequential explanation of the different methods of resource extraction and utilization b y man in his environment will be discussed. The course objectives are:

To introduce the broader context of Man's interaction with the Resources avail him by the environment he lives in.
To equip students with the dimensional impact of man's activities on his environment.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

On successful completion of this course, Students should be able to:

Understand the nature and scope of man's quest for economic independence.
Identify and explain important resources and sectors that add more value to man's life.
Explain the impact of man's activities on the environment.

Week one - Production Systems: Primary Activities

Week two - Secondary Activties

Week three - Tertiary and quaternary Activities

Week four - Energy as a Resource

Week five - Impact of Human Activities on the Environment at varying levels of Technology.

Week six - Impact of Human Activities on the Environment at varying levels of densities of population.
